La Roseraie is located in the bucolic department of the Vienne, with its ancient villages and towns and crossed by the beautiful Vienne and Charente rivers.

The capital is the historic town of Poitiers, which boasts some of the oldest Romanesque remains in France. Today it is a major university town (27,000 students) with lovely parks and where the café society lingers around the pedestrianised city square and along the shop-lined alleyways. See

Weather. Our region is renowned for having one of the most pleasant climates in France (2,400 sunshine hours a year) and is second only to the Cote d'Azur (without the Mistral!) Summers are hot, but not muggy, whilst winters are relatively mild, although frost and snow patches are not unknown.

Tourism. There is much to explore for people of all ages and preferences. Being centrally located, it is not possible to cover all the possibilities on one page, but here are a few of our suggestions:

The Loire Valley is just 45 minutes’ drive from La Roseraie. Other fantastic chateaux we recommend include

· Chinon. Charming medieval town and chateau, where Joan of Arc met with the Dauphine

· Chateau Villandry

· Chateau Azay le Rideau

· Chateau Amboise

· Leonardo de Vinci’s last home, Clos Luce, in Amboise

· The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud

· Chateau Saumur

· Saumur Cadre Noir

Day trips to the coast

· La Rochelle

· Ile de Re

Family Fun

  • Futuroscope – 10 minutes from our gates, this hugely popular French theme park is based upon multimedia, cinematographic futorscope and audio-visual techniques. It has several 3D cinemas and a few 4D cinemas along with other attractions and shows, some of which are the only examples in the world. But be warned, the queues can be very lengthy in the summer.
  • The Valley of the Monkeys – a brilliant day out for children and adults alike. Highly recommended by our guests
  • Mouton Village – including rare and ancient breeds of sheep, sheep shearing, the chance for children to bottle-feed lambs, a sheep dog herding the ducks, etc
  • Canoeing down a river is a popular activity in the Charente and a great wayto get another perspective of the countryside andsee passing riverside châteaux and mills
